Bob Kanefsky is a brilliant parodist, although only well-known within the filk community. His three songbooks to date collect the lyrics to many of his parodies.
We have copies of two of Kanef's songbooks, Songworm 2, and Songworm 3, at $12 each. As far as we know, his other songbook is out of print. Temporarily, we hope.
Firebird Arts and Music of Oregon, Inc., made three cassette albums of Kanef's parodies, many of which were recorded by the artists whose originals were parodied. We also have copies of one of Kanef's cassette tapes, Tapeworm 2, at $10 each. The others are out of print.
International trade in filk is severely hampered by customs, taxes, enormous postage charges, and general ignorance of what is going on in other countries, even in a tiny field like filk music. We have made arrangements to import some products into the U.S. This will be of interest only to our domestic customers.
In Canada, one importer is Minstrel's Glen, which can be found on our dealer page. Outside of North America, we recommend that you buy directly from the publishers, or from a local outlet, if you can find one.
We have Bitter Lemmings, Tom Holt's songbook, published by Beccon Publications, and imported from England, at $10. Tom is mainly known for his comic fantasy novels. This album is definitely comic, consisting entirely of new lyrics to existing tunes.
We have songbooks and albums imported from Germany, although they are mostly in English. They are published by various combinations of Juliane Honisch (called Ju, pronounced "Yooh"), Harald Sawatzki (called Harry or "The Bear"), and Kerstin Dröge (called Katy by her English-speaking friends with uneducated tongues), with help from other friends. Some have the Bear Productions logo; all include Ju on the copyright notice.
Ju has published two songbooks, Filk From a Developing Country (with 41 songs), and Ju Two (with 39 songs), both available at $12.00. These songbooks are profusely illustrated and include many original melodies, which are presented with scores and guitar chords.
They have also produced two cassette albums, featuring songs from Ju's songbooks. The first, also titled Filk From a Developing Country, is available from Wail Songs, which duplicates it under license for the american market. We have the sequel, Filk From a Developing Country, Volume 2: Beyond, for $12.
Their latest album is Witch Way to Reality, available only on CD for $16.
They have also collected an anthology album, Filk Around Germany, which is sold in a set with a lyric booklet, for $14.
